2024 Judo Tibilisi
From March 22nd to 24th, another international judo event took place in Tbilisi, Georgia. The home team won four gold medals and Brazil won two bronze medals. But in the end it was the judo event that caught my least attention this year. With the exception of one episode that I will tell at the end of the text.
Since I don't have much to say about the event, I'm going to take the opportunity to write about transmissions, which is a pertinent and related subject.
I watch these events on YouTube on the Brazilian Olympic Committee channel, Time Brasil. The same images but with a different transmission are also available on the CazéTV channel. This happens because the two channels shared the costs of purchasing broadcasting rights. I have no idea about the percentages, I don't know if they both pay the same, or if one pays more. But regardless of that, I have a lot to thank Cazé, owner of Cazé TV, because he is not from judo. He is a content producer mainly about football. But he broadcast the Tokyo Olympics with a large audience. He had no right to transmit images. People watched his reaction, but to watch images they needed to be connected to another media.
It's easy to understand why he rushed to secure broadcasts of Olympic sports for free. Firstly because he is a Brazil fan. And secondly, for his business of broadcasting the Olympic games to bear more fruit, he needs Brazil to win more medals. And to encourage support for winning these medals, it is essential that these sports are broadcast every year, not just every four years. On the CazéTV channel and on Time Brasil there are broadcasts of various Olympic sports, not just judo.
For me, the most sensational thing about this type of broadcast is that it's there for you to watch later, it makes my life so much easier. Part of the public still hasn't gotten used to this power, they are stuck with the need to only watch it if it's live. But that tends to change.
Recently I saw Cazé saying that he puts these broadcasts on YouTube and not on Twitch because YouTube is more interested in this type of content. But he did not give further details.
The big event on broadcasts these days has been the Counter Strike Major, a very popular video game. The most interesting part is that the official live broadcast in Portuguese is having very little audience. And the community broadcast made by a content producer called Gaulês is having much more audience. The Gaulês in a more or less revolutionary action, instead of broadcasting only on Twitch as was usual, he started broadcasting on several platforms. Twitch, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tic Toc and tried on LinkedIn but failed.
As the days went by, he gave up on some of these platforms but remained steadfast on Twitch, YouTube and Twitter. With this, she gestures towards these platforms, implying that she wants them to help pay the bill. Which may not lead to anything, but it could bring even more and better broadcasts to video games and sports in general, including judo, my main focus.
Now the video with the most interesting part of the event in Georgia. If you don't want to see it, just come by and I'll tell you.
The woman won a gold medal and was soon asked to marry her. This normally opens the door for criticism, but the girl was so happy that I think it's best to just wish the couple good luck and end it here.
PS: Something interesting happened during the broadcast of the Counter Strike Major final and it shows why I don't necessarily need live broadcasts to follow a sport. For example, I followed five days of judo broadcasts at the 2020 Olympic Games just for the score. Google made the scores available for free on the internet. It only has the fight time, showing whether the fight is ongoing or paused. Points and punishments. Sometimes that's enough.
At the last map of the Counter Strike Major Gaules was without game images. He was already having countless difficulties, because he didn't have official images of the event. And they invented a bunch of rules. He would have to broadcast two minutes late. I couldn't broadcast 'replays' or 'highlights'. And what I find most strange is that his screen could not to show the same thing as his friends. That last one was so weird that I didn't even understand how he solved it. But my suspicion is that he hired a programmer to prepare an artificial intelligence that would ensure that each broadcaster was seeing the game from a different angle. He generated some strange situations where someone would shout, "look at this Gaules" and he would respond, "my screen is somewhere else".
At the very end there was a problem and all that was left to convey was the score board. Anyone who wants to see how:
